The Life expectancy index is a statistical measure used to determine the average lifespan of the population of a certain nation or area. Life expectancy is one of the factors in measuring the Human Development Index (HDI) of each nation, along with adult literacy, education, and standard of living.[1]

Life expectancy is also a factor in finding the physical quality of life of an area.

The formula to find the life expectancy of an area is:

\frac{LE - 25} {85-25} LE: Life expectancy at birth
